Love for earth at first sight

03 20 - 04 17

PC AKROPOLIS,
III floor - events hall

Celebrating the International Day of Happiness on March 20th, globally acclaimed artist Luke Jerram invites to embrace and revel in the beauty of our planet Earth through his masterpiece "Gaia", making its debut in the Baltic States. While the artist's works can be admired in museums and galleries in New York, Shanghai, and London, Kaunas “Akropolis” offers a unique opportunity to experience "Gaia" firsthand until April 17th.

"Humanity has gazed at the Moon for over 200 thousand years, drawing inspiration for music, mythology, and literature across cultures. Have you ever thought we could look at the planet Earth for the first time only 50 years ago?" questions artist L. Jerram.  In Greek Mythology, Gaia is the personification of the Earth.

Enchanting and thought-provoking, "Gaia" has traversed continents, captivating audiences in the United States of America, Italy, Ireland, the United Kingdom, China, Australia, Taiwan, and beyond. Spanning six metres in diameter, this installation brings detailed NASA imagery of Earth's surface, presenting our planet as seen from the Moon - mesmerising, interconnecting diverse life forms, and urging us to shoulder responsibility for our actions. The artwork is 1.8 million times smaller than the real Earth, with each centimetre of the internally lit sculpture describing 18km of the Earth’s surface. A specially made surround sound composition by BAFTA award-winning Composer Dan Jones is played alongside the object.
